Simon and her team toured Noya’s facility and discussed how Noya’s technology—and carbon removal overall—can help address the climate crisis, bring in-demand jobs to Oakland, and strengthen California’s climate leadership

WEST OAKLAND, CA (October 17, 2024) — Noya welcomed CA-12 candidate Lateefah Simon to its headquarters late last week to learn more about its scalable, cost-effective, and all-electric Direct Air Capture technology. The visit allowed Simon and her team to see Noya’s carbon removal approach up close and learn about Noya’s growth. Simon toured Noya’s R&D lab and manufacturing facilities in West Oakland before meeting with company employees.

Since its founding in 2020, Noya has grown to 27 full-time employees, raised $23M+ from leading venture capital investors, and secured significant carbon removal offtake agreements with industry-leading companies like Shopify. The company’s approach to Direct Air Capture is uniquely designed to integrate with intermittent renewable energy resources and Noya’s systems generate a significant amount of water alongside the CO2, allowing the company to help alleviate water stress in communities where projects are developed.

“It’s inspiring to see firsthand the work that companies like Noya are doing to build innovative climate solutions,” said CA-12 candidate Lateefah Simon. “I am excited by the potential for their Direct Air Capture technology to not only mitigate climate change but also create high-quality jobs right here in Oakland. This is the type of innovation that will drive California’s green economy and protect our planet for future generations.”

“At Noya, we believe that tackling the climate crisis requires collaboration across different industries, levels of government, and communities,” said Noya CEO, Josh Santos. “We were excited to welcome Lateefah Simon at our R&D facility and hope to see all leaders as open to devoting attention to climate solutions and climate justice as she is. We’re excited about the potential to work together to strengthen California’s role as a global climate leader.”
